The Christmas story is one of the most famous stories around. The story about a baby born to a virgin in a manger is known all around the world, and the nativity scenes outside the churches are a beautiful sight. Gifts can be given that have some relation to the story itself.
The Christmas story
An angel visited Mary and said she was chosen by God to carry His child. His name was to be Jesus and he would grow to be the savior of mankind. When Mary was close to birth, they had to travel to Bethlehem in order to escape from King Herod. When they arrived in Bethlehem, there was no room at the inn, Mary was very close to labor so the manager took pity on them and let them stay in the manger. She then gave birth to Jesus a few hours later.
When Jesus was born, a bright star appeared above the manger. An angel appeared to three wise kings, and told them what was happening. They then wanted to see the baby and brought Him gifts of frankincense, gold and myrrh. They followed a bright star all the way to Bethlehem and presented their gifts to the baby. The shepherds in nearby fields were first scared by this star, and then when the angel came down, and reassured them, they started rejoicing.

With so many different gifts that available these days, people sometimes forget the true meaning of Christmas. For those who would like to give traditional gifts, one option is to give the traditional gifts that were given to Jesus. There are fragrances of both frankincense and myrrh. These can either be in the form of incense, potpourri or scented oils. There are many varieties of gold that can be given as gifts, anything including rings, necklaces and watches. The true meaning of Christmas is not the amount of money spent, but the thought behind the gift. It is better to give than to receive. Therefore, a personalized gift is better than an expensive gift. The Christmas story should remind everyone that the greatest gift of all is to be with family.

There is a legend of the origins of Christmas tinsel, it has been said that when Herod was hunting down the newborns, a spider wanted protect Jesus. When Mary and Joseph were hiding out in the caves, the spider weaved a web that covered the entrance to the cave. When Herod saw this cave, he thought that no one was in there, thus Jesus was saved. In the morning, they found this web glistening in the sun, and from there tinsel was born.
An angel that appears on top of the tree represents the angel that appeared to Mary and the kings. If a star appears on top of the tree it is to represent the star that shone over the manger that night.
