The story of ‘the Elf who lost his smile’

Christmas Elf DuendeAll of us have good days and bad days, but there are people who with their charm and good humor are able to put our smile right back where it belongs. Sometimes when we are feeling unhappy and depressed for no definable reason, along comes a person who waves a magic wand of happiness and puts things right. This is a story of just such a person who with his thoughtfulness and understanding was able to help a troubled individual.

The unhappy elf

Quite a long time ago, Santa had an elf in his toy factory called Frez, who was very unhappy with himself. His unhappiness and uneasiness went up as Christmas season came nearer. The work load of each elf increased and everybody worked under a lot of pressure to finish all the toys in time for Santa to go on his journey on Christmas Eve.

Frez, meanwhile got so flurried that he sometimes ate two lunches in the elf canteen without realizing what he was doing. He found fault with all his work and thought that none of his creations looked their best. The dolls’ smiles did not quite reach their eyes and the toy soldiers seemed droopy. The skittles were not skittly enough and the toy animals did not look real.

Santa to the rescue

Santa observed Frez for a few days and soon understood the root of the problem. Athough like all elves he was small in built and looked much younger than he really was actually Frez was an old elf. Santa decided that Frez needed special attention and special work to make him feel wanted and important i.e. special. So Santa asked Frez to repair all the broken toys with his care and attention. He told Frez that this was a project with which he could trust no one else and that made Frez very happy, and yes, special. Frez was cured of his depression and soon became a very happy elf.

This sweet story teaches us that each and every one of us has some special talent that needs to be tapped to help people in need.
